The Play Providers Conference at LIW- 22nd/ 23rd September 2009

The Play Providers Conference is the must attend seminar and workshop program for indoor play centre operators. Held annually at Leisure Industry Week, the PPF provides operators with opportunities to benchmark best practice, gain new ideas and also develop their understanding of new topic areas. . Anyone operating an FEC in the UK and beyond should attend the conference which is made up of 2 days of sessions, specifically arranged by the Play Providers Association (PPA). The Conference will take place in Hospitality Suites 29 and 30. The PPA is fortunate to have a group of volunteer FEC owners and operators working on behalf of our members to create educational programs and opportunities. All the sessions are listed below and if you are planning to attend please register for the sessions you wish to attend in advance. You will also need to seperately register for show entry (to avoid the on the day charge)

Regional Meeting

Tuesday 22nd September, Session 1, 12-00

KEY NOTE SESSION- Pre School child care, Nurseries, After School Clubs - Paul Sharp (Kids Play)

Paul Sharp is the leading operator in terms of running out of school/ after school clubs and holiday clubs as a valuable add on to his play centre business . Paul has acted as a consultant to several other operators setting up this additional income stream and his session will cover all the basics in establishing a childcare business in your centre pointing out the pit falls along the way.

Engaging with the educational and healthcare sectors (Panel Session)

There is an unprecedented amount of government support for getting people active which has led to massive government investment and for the first time, engagement with private businesses. This session will speak about potential opportunities in AOR and the benefits of engaging with healthcare professionals. The second part of the session will focus on schools and methods to attracting schools groups to your centre.

Play Providers Association Interactive Workshop – Cost Cutting and Benchmarking

Following on from last years highly popular parties workshops, this year the theme to the regional meeting style operator workshops will be cost cutting. Attendees will be situated on discussion tables and discuss with like minded operators ways to cut costs. There is also an opportunity to benchmark your overheads with others and gain ideas on reducing spend without losing quality or service consistency.

KEY NOTE SESSION- Making your Attraction Attractive - Duncan Phillips (DP Leisure)

Duncan Phillips is a leading player in the attractions sector with 20 years experience in the industry. Duncan's company DP Leisure operates 3 Gullivers sites throughout the UK and has recently entered the Family Entertainment Centre market with a centre in Milton Keynes called 360 play. Duncan will share his experiences about how best to maximise revenue from an attraction and will cover his observations on the FEC sector and the model he has implemented at his centre. This session is sure to provide PPA members with interesting thoughts and ideas to take away.

Wednesday 23rd September, Session 1, 12-00

A guide to successful fund raising- Kevin Wheatley (Sensory UK)

This session will be giving definate practical guidance on how to source and apply effectively for available funding. Kevin will identify and provide analysis of the key funding providers and the criteria these funders are likely to be looking for, and of particular interest to new start ups,  the session will offer some suggestions on how to angle a business proposal to broaden its scope and appeal Aimed at- PPA Members, Indoor Play Centre Operators, Potential New Start Ups

Social Marketing tool and utlising them in your playcentre- Sue Anstiss (Promote PR) 

Sue Anstiss, Managing Director of Promote Public Relations, provides an overview of social media and demonstrates how operators can make use of online tools including Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter and Blogging.

Creating healthy menu’s in Playcentres- Claire Williamson (British Nutrition Foundation)

This session on creating healthy eating options in playcentre will see expert advice given from Change 4 Life partner, The British Nutrition Foundation. The British Nutrition Foundation is a registered charity. It promotes the wellbeing of society through the impartial interpretation and effective dissemination of scientifically based knowledge and advice on the relationship between diet, physical activity and health. The session will give you a good understanding of how to customise your menu to fit in with the demand of healthier food options.

How to avoid being another business failure statistic in the Indoor Play Market (Panel )

Members of the Play Providers Association (PPA) present their ideas on what makes a successful play centre and how new operators can reduce the risk associated with a new business start up. The presentation will look at the importance of research, why you need to clearly define your business model and know who your customers will be as well as how to pull all the factors together to create a profitable business. The impact of competition will also be touched upon and PPA exec members will be available to answer any questions which you may have after the session.
