Street closures can help get children active

A Play England evaluation of their project Street Play shows that helping children play outside by closing streets for set time periods can help children meet daily targets of physical activity. The project has taken place in 33 geographically diverse areas, with over 5,000 volunteers creating over 60,000 additional play opportunities.

The evaluations recommend that street play should be included in relevant policies that promote improved public health, child and family wellbeing, community connectedness and sustainable transport.

The evaluation has two key parts - Why temporary street closures for play make sense for public health and Street play initiatives in disadvantaged areas: experiences and emerging issues.
